NORDIC LUXE

One trend I’ve noticed everywhere is a modern take on the rustic cosy cabin look, with a moody monochrome palette and a minimalist luxe vibe. This was actually the look that was showcased in the modern Christmas styled shoot I participated in last year, which you can see here. The key to pulling off this style is to include gorgeous geometric patterns and plenty of texture. For example, fluffy faux fur rugs, frosted decorations that evoke snowy landscapes, and hints of glittering gold.

I love geometric patterns and shapes and use them in many of my stationery designs, so I love this look! I’ve been selling a collection of hexagon gifts as part of my Christmas collection this year, which includes hanging decorations as well as coasters. Each has handwritten name personalisation, and comes in a choice of four colours.

For matching gift wrap, I’d opt for more the reusable and recycled paper options that are so popular this year. These include hand printed papers and fabrics, which would look lovely under a modern Christmas tree! It’s all about that texture! Another fun idea is to try furoshiki, the Japanese art of wrapping with cloth. Tie some twine around your package, add a handwritten tag, and you have the perfect parcel!

NEONS

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s been a big trend this year for bold patterns and bright colours. For Christmas, it’s set to be all about neon and fluorescent colours! For example, John Lewis’ signature Christmas 2019 look (called ‘Party’ is a throwback to the flamboyant nightclub scenes for the ’80s and ’90s, with bright lights, holographic textures, and playful decorations. Perfect for partying on into the new year! I loved the idea of this colourful modern Christmas trend, which is why I included a fluorescent red in my collection of hanging decorations. For those looking for a pop of colour and a modern touch to their tree this winter without going all the way to hot pink and neon orange, it’s a great option.

When it come to table décor, this theme pairs beautifully with sleek marble, as well as metallic and mirrored surfaces. And as for gift wrap, it’s all about those bright and bold patterns!

Don’t forget! You can find a selection of Christmas cards, tags, decorations and gifts over in my shop.
