As featured on Bridal Musings

I’m delighted to be able to share another exciting published feature for White Olive Design Studio – this time on top wedding blog Bridal Musings. I was asked to be involved in this creative collaboration by photographer Ioana Porav. The theme was ‘elegant bordello chic’, a decadent mix of luxurious jewel tones and dazzling gold, with opulent florals and laid-back bohemian details. As Ioana puts it, “a more relaxed wedding party with lots of prettiness, details and smiles”. For the stationery, the brief was to create some luxury calligraphy pieces with rich tones to complement the rest of the look.

I created a custom wedding stationery suite using a mix of handmade and cotton-based papers. The invitation itself featured a stunning burgundy paper and full handwritten gold calligraphy, which looked absolutely gorgeous against the rich ruby background! I kept the design simple to showcase the calligraphy, but added a small calligraphy monogram with leaf motif at the top that was repeated on the envelope liner. To finish off, I used a grey tassel and affixed it to the top of the invitation card – it’s all about the little details!

For the table design, I created a menu with a similar design to the wedding invitation, also with gold handwritten calligraphy against that beautiful burgundy card. This time, I attached a plum coloured tassel that reflected some of the blooms in the bride’s floral crown and on the table itself. I also made deckle edged calligraphy place setting tags complete with their own little tassels. I loved how these details worked alongside some of the other elements in the shoot, like the stunning gem wedding cake, the plush velvet ring box, and the geometric ceremony arch.

Although I love working with printed stationery, it was also fun to create a suite using just calligraphy for this shoot, especially working with such vibrant colours. If you’re looking for modern calligraphy for your event invitations or business branding, or would like to add handwritten calligraphy to your wedding stationery, get in touch! Or if you’d like to try your hand at calligraphy yourself, I have a selection of beginners calligraphy kits available.
