As featured on Festival Brides
Last summer I was delighted to be asked by Alex of The Bijou Bride to be part of a shoot she was styling for the Snap Photography Festival. Our inspiration came from the setting – the incredible Victorian Shell House folly at West Lexham in Norfolk. It has hundreds of delicate shells set into the plaster, framing doors and windows, evoking the wild romance of the sea. The colours of its walls also suggested a tonal palette of inky blues and greys, perfect for a beach wedding. The team of creatives Alex assembled, including myself, was invited to dream up our own interpretations of coastal textures and shapes, to add to the overall vision. The White Olive Design Studio contribution included bespoke coastal wedding stationery and calligraphy, including sea glass, shell place settings, watercolour washes, silver detailing, and an invitation suite in beautiful blue and turquoise shades.
The invitation suite was a bespoke hand lettered calligraphy design with turquoise watercolour washes that were each individually painted by hand. The invitations were printed on cotton rag paper with deckled edges, for an elegantly rustic, beachy feel. Some of the pieces were finished with a vellum layer to soften the colour and add detail. They were then tied with hand dyed silk ribbon from Silk & Purl, and sealed with marble wax. The watercolour detailing was used as an inspiration for the beautiful painted watercolour cake by Sugar Buttons Creative, which tied the whole look together cohesively.
The table names were all inspired by Greek gods (love this idea for a destination Greek wedding!). To keep with the coastal theme, they were written onto frosted seaglass acrylic sheets in white ink. This was a popular look for 2018 weddings and I’m sure it will continue on into this year as it adds a delicate, ethereal touch.
